EcoHeat Compact Heat Pump System

Air-source systems are the most commonly installed heat pumps. They have two parts: compressor (heat pump) and water storage tank. A refrigerant, which circulates between the two units through condenser, absorbs and releases heat as it moves back and forth.

New air-source heat pumps can reduce your heating costs by about 75 percent over electric heaters.

The Advantages of Air Source Heat Pumps
  • Heat pumps are much cheaper to run than direct electric heating systems. .
  • Heat pumps save space. There are no fuel storage requirements.
  • Heat pumps are safe. There is no combustion involved and no emission of potentially dangerous gases. No flues are required.
  • Require less maintenance than combustion based heating systems. They also have a longer life than combustion boilers.

How does a Heat Pump Works?
  1. Heat is absorbed from the surrounding environment by evaporator. Refrigerant will completely change phase fro liquid to gaseous form.
  2. The superheated gas will then be compressred further by the compressor to raise it to usable temperature and pressure before entering to the condenser.
  3. Water picks up the heat and store in the calorifier tank.
  4. Refrigerant liquid  will travel through the thermal expansion valve and pressure will be reduced to super-cooled temperature.

Air Source Heat Pump Electricity Savings

For example - 300 liters of hot water storage tank required electricity to heat from 30°C to 60°C:-

Q = cp m dT - 4.186kJ/kg°C x 300 kg x (60-30) / 3600 = 10.465 kWh

Given newest TNB tariff per month as follows:

TARIFF CATEGORY UNIT CURRENT RATE (1 JAN 2018)

Tariff A - Domestic Tariff
For the first 200 kWh (1 - 200 kWh) per monthsen/kWh21.80
For the next 100 kWh (201 - 300 kWh) per monthsen/kWh33.40
For the next 300 kWh (301 - 600 kWh) per monthsen/kWh51.60
For the next 300 kWh (601 - 900 kWh) per monthsen/kWh54.60
For the next kWh (901 kWh onwards) per monthsen/kWh57.10

10.465 kWh x 30 days = 313.95 kWh = 0.516 x 313.95 kWh = RM 162.00 x 12 months

= RM 1,944.00 (for water heating only)

EcoHeat Compact Heat Pump required power input of 0.6 kWh only and with Coefficient of Performance (COP) of 4.15 thus heating capacity is 0.6 kWh x 4.15 COP = 2.49 kWh

To heat 300 liters of water required 10.465 kWh and the heating time for EcoHeat Compact Heat Pump is 252 minutes therefore electric consumption is 2.52 kWh only

2.52 kWh x 30 days = 75.6 kWh = 0.516 x 75.6 kWh = RM 39.00 x 12 months

= RM 468.00 (for water heating only)

Based on above calculation, the electric saving is 75 percent.
